The California Speedboat Association was established in 1934 by a group of Northern California speedboat enthusiasts interested in racing. CSA members struck a deal with the Port of Oakland and constructed a waterfront clubhouse on the estuary near Oakland Airport where the club hosted many regattas and became a social gathering hot spot for race boat owners and their families. Early members included the great 20th century industrialists and innovators; Henry Kaiser (Kaiser Aluminum), Stanley Dollar (Dollar Steamship Lines), Lou Fageol (Twin Coach Company), J. Phillip Murphy (Judson Pacific-Murphy Corp.) and Dan Arena (Arena Craft). Following the return of our troops from the war, club membership quickly grew to 250 members.
Many world speed records and national championships were earned by CSA members. After nearly 90 Years of continuous activity, California Speedboat Association strives to honor, promote and sponsor vintage and classic race boat events and regattas. The camaraderie CSA members share fuels their passion for restoring, preserving and driving the vintage speedboats shown today. The membership also looks to develop joint venture programs with other organizations having similar interests. If you have appreciation for the beauty of vintage boats and an interest in learning where you too may find one please contact CSA Commodore Scott Courts at (925)989-8102
